- Fatima Dollie | Brain Gym NZ
Fatima Dollie Location: Email: Central Auckland dollie@xtra.co.nz Mobile: Phone: Website: 0210 849 1950 +64 9 631 7820 < Return According to Hannaford (1995), to ‘pin down’ a thought, there must be movement. Movement supports thought. Learning is ubiquitous. It entails the building of skills, and skills are built through the movement of muscles. In medicine, art, music, and science, competence in these and other professions develops through intricate internal networking among thought, muscles, and emotions. (p. 98) Brain Gym provides educators with strategies including kinaesthetic techniques that allow students to use both the right and left sides of their brain. Movement and physical activity is necessary for an individual’s learning process (Blakemore, 2003). BACKGROUND I am an experienced teacher with vast international experience. For over 30 years I've worked at various schools in the primary and secondary sectors. I pride myself on my innovative and advanced concepts in the field of education. Including a daily dose of Brain Gym which has proven to be highly effective in my classroom. My motivation comes from sharing success stories of using Brain Gym in the classroom. I love having the opportunity to cultivate and promote movement, well-being and learning with people of similar mindsets. Hopefully, Brain Gym will find a place to grow the student's love for learning and become a way of life rather than simply a positive outcome of education. When the teacher and students feel good about themselves, physically and emotionally, the day can only go well. Brain Gym has considerably enhanced my physical health, mental perceptiveness, relationships, and performance at work, as well as my ability to be emotionally engaged with myself and with others. SPECIALTY I strongly advocate and infuse Brain Gym to break the "culture of silence" ( Smart Moves) , promoting cooperative learning, and creativity, enhancing critical thinking as well as integrated teaching methods and combining it with the traditional skills, concepts and values so close to the hearts of all loving parents and inspiring educators. - Alexandra Partington | Brain Gym NZ
Alexandra Partington Location: Email: Upper Moutere, Nelson mind.bodynbalance@gmail.com Mobile: Phone: Website: 020 4192 7724 < Return BACKGROUND In my personal life, I have been using Brain Gym movements for 30 years, which has supported me emotionally through life's ups and downs. As a qualified Educational Kinesiologist, I have been sharing these life-supporting strategies for over a decade with my clients who range from age 6-76! In my practice, I incorporate a variety of modalities which activate the brain to create a readiness to grow and change. This encourages a sense of inner “balance” and the optimal environment to make the personal shifts and changes you want to see and accomplish in your life. • Brain Gym and Vison gym, using whole-body intentional movements • Touch for Health • BAL-A-VIS-X (see description below) • Non-Violent Communication and somatic (body) awareness My Educational Kinesiology practice has evolved to include Equine-assisted Therapy. This journey has supported me in becoming trauma-informed; I understand that healing occurs when we become familiar with, and befriend the sensations in our bodies . Being with horses makes it easier for many people to be in their bodies and to notice the physical and emotional sensations they are feeling. From a young age, many of us develop limiting beliefs about ourselves, often because of developmental patterns that have been disrupted due to stress or trauma. I believe that It is possible to move beyond these limitations in order to step into our potential, and to achieve our hopes and dreams. MY SPECIALTY My passion in my work is to support young people and adults move through life stages, supporting decision making, improving confidence, learning and realising their potential. I support learners of all ages to feel empowered. From a young age we often have labels such as "I’m not good at maths" or "I can’t read", and it might take a lifetime to undo these deeply ingrained judgments of ourselves. MY CLINIC I work with my client's natural abilities and offer in-person and online sessions to support: Ease of learning Neurodiversity Overcoming anxiety Reaching your full potential Thriving amongst life’s challenges Alignment of the whole body, mind, and spirit Joy, balance, and harmony in life COURSES I TEACH Introduction to Brain Gym BG101 - Brain Gym 101 QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Adult Education Registered Educational Kinesiologist / Brain Gym Instructor Bal-A-Vis-X Practitioner* Equine-Assisted Growth and Healing Practitioner Colournostics *Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of balance, auditory and vision exercises of varying complexity that are deeply rooted in rhythm. These exercises require full body coordination and focused attention. The programme utilises sandbags, racquet balls, and balance boards. Bal-A-Vis-X promotes eye tracking, concentration, cooperation, self-challenge, and flexibility in thinking. It's often perceived as a fun and connecting way to cultivate mind, body, and system integration, creating a can-do attitude. My clients have shared that they appreciate my ability to be a fully present and good listener, an empathetic, encouraging, mindful, gentle, and compassionate facilitator. Whether you would like to receive a Balance, work with the horses, learn Bal-A-Vis-X or Brain Gym movements, I look forward to hearing from you. It is my privilege to walk alongside you, sharing the empowering tools to enable you to experience more of who you are. Testimonial from a client: I came to work with Alexandra to do Equine Assisted Therapy as I wanted to work on some old trauma issues from my childhood that were affecting me and causing anxiety amongst other things. The sessions with Alexandra and the horse therapist working with me at each session are profound and continue to help me on my healing journey. Alexandra’s wisdom and intuition combined with her skills, support, compassion and non-judgement has enabled me to make substantial progress on healing deeper issues within me and resulting in wonderful shifts in my life. Working with Alexandra is a very nurturing, enlightening, enriching and enjoyable experience. The horses are amazing. Each one has a different way of working with you, but they each facilitate profound and deep realisations. The horses know how I am feeling and what is happening to me on deeper emotional levels and so they are able to help bring to the surface old emotional wounds and patterns to be able to be released, in a very supportive and nurturing environment. I wholeheartedly recommend the Equine Assisted Therapy Alexandra and her horses provide. Brain Gym International Brain Gym International (trading as Breakthroughs International) encompasses a wide range of approaches and non-invasive interventions, all of which share the understanding that the body has the capacity to correct itself. Using inquiry-based models as well as a unique understanding of body mechanics, our programmes help people attain optimal levels of performance and success in all aspects of life. The Founders Paul E. Dennison, PhD, is a professional educator, an authority on the attainment of cognitive and academic skills, and a pioneer in the field of Educational Kinesiology. In the 1960s, he began the research into reading achievement and its relation to brain development that would eventually form the basis for the Brain Gym programme. Using his discoveries of the interdependence of physical development, language acquisition, and academic achievement, he began to develop the basis of Educational Kinesiology. Eventually, Paul joined forces with Gail, an artist and movement educator, who later became his wife and collaborator. The Dennisons gathered some of their favourite activities for learning and moving, gave them playful names, and organised them according to the three dimensions of movement, then published them in the book called Brain Gym: Simple Activities for Whole-Brain Learning. This series of activities is known today as the Brain Gym movements, and are an integral part of the Brain Gym programme.
